| We are about 200 Pennsylvania, South Jersey and Delaware gardeners who enjoy growing some of the almost 60,000 registered Daylily cultivars and many more that we have hybridized ourselves. We learn from each other about the best growing varieties, the newest, and the best of the "oldies". We visit each others' gardens for ideas,
and trade daylilies and stories with each other.
We start the spring with a catered luncheon with speaker, usually a nationally known daylily hybridizer who gives us an idea of what's coming to market in the near future, and other insider info to make us better daylily growers.
In May we have a plant swap; you can take home as many as you bring. It's a great way to try new things and recycle plants that have outgrown their space in your garden. We encourage people to bring things other than daylilies, but there are some daylilies too.
In early July, the peak bloom season, we sponsor a Daylily Show with hundreds of daylily blooms displayed. The show, usually in a western suburb of Philadelphia, is open to the public after judging.
In the week after the daylily show, several members each year open their gardens to other members during specific times publicized only to the membership.
In August, we hold a daylily sale in Paoli. After the sale we hold a members-only auction of cutting-edge daylilies bought by the club and raised for a year by members to assure their winter hardiness, etc.
We close out the year with a fall pot luck luncheon, and another speaker.
Membership includes subscription to our email-distributed newsletter, and entitles you to join our joint DVDS & Garden State (New Jersey) Daylily Group at Yahoo Groups. Here members can ask questions, let us know of sales, and otherwise tap into our collective experience.
